Olympia, WA – Thurston County Auditor Kim Wyman encourages citizens to get involved in the political process. “The 2009 election cycle officially begins Monday, June 1,” reminds Auditor Wyman. Candidates may file for elected office either by mail or in person. New this year, candidates can also file online beginning 8:00 a.m. Monday, June 1 until 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009. Candidates who file online must bring their online print out to the Thurston County Auditor’s Office by 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 5 to have their declaration of candidacy officially accepted.
Filing week begins at 8:00 a.m. Monday, June 1 and ends at 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 5. The Auditor’s Office is open from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Filings received after 5:00 p.m. on June 5 will not be accepted. Ballot order will be determined by lot drawing immediately after the close of business on Friday, June 5.
The following Thurston County districts have open positions: Thurston County Commissioner District 3, Port of Olympia Districts 2 & 3, all towns and cities, schools (candidates for Centralia School District must file with the Lewis County Auditor), fire, cemetery, and park & recreation districts. A last minute addition to the list of openings includes, Fire Protection District No. 12, Position 3.
