Senator Don Benton responds to Patty Murray's support for a public option

Senator Don Benton today issued the following statement in response to Senator Patty Murray's support for a public option in the healthcare bill during the budget reconciliation process:

"I am deeply troubled that Senator Patty Murray supports the desperate, last-minute attempt to force a healthcare bill through the Congress that the American people do not want and which will raise taxes, cut Medicare and increase spending.  We cannot add another trillion or more dollars in debt on top of our record high debt levels."

"Equally outrageous is Senator Murray’s willingness to trample the normal legislative rules in order to get her way. The people of our state and nation need our leaders to focus on on creating jobs and restarting our economy, not on reckless tax-and-spend plans."
