Request for Participation in the Pro and Con statement committees for the August 18, 2009 Primary Election Thurston County

Olympia, WA – If a county, city, town, or other taxing district turns in a resolution on or by May 26 to the Thurston County Auditor’s Office, it is the responsibility of the district to appoint pro and con committees.  These committees will write for and against statements, and the district’s legal counsel will write an explanatory statement which will all appear in the Thurston County Local Voters’ Pamphlet for the August 18, 2009 Primary.
If a district is unable to appoint pro or con committees, it is the Thurston County Auditor’s Office responsibility to insure citizens have an opportunity to participate on these committees.  Listed below are the known jurisdictions that have submitted a resolution for the Primary Election:  Fire District No. 1 (Grand Mound-Rochester) & Fire District No. 11 (Littlerock).  Fire District 6 (East Olympia) and <<insert other districts w/resolutions>>
The deadline for signing up to act on a committee is Tuesday, June 9, 2009.  For more information about participating in this process, contact Sandy Baxter at (360) 786-5408 or via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Matt Manweller Lecture and Book Signing PDF Print E-mail

Matt ManwellerMatt Manweller is a professor of political science at Central Washington University. He gained national recognition in 2004 when he wrote a column for the Daily Record titled Election Determines Fate of Nation.

He published a book called The Right Opinion: A Heretic's Voice from the Ivory Tower which is a compilation of his articles interspersed with his experience of being a conservative professor on a college campus. He recounts the kind of silent retribution he has endured.

Frequently I hear state employees say that they don't want to run for public office, or be too outspoken in fear of damaging their career. Silent retribution is alive and well in Olympia -- especially if you have a state job.

This is a free event. Matt Manweller will have books for sale at $15 ea.

Appropriate for the whole family. Bring your children and grandchildren.

Date: June 11

Time: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Location: Lacey Library

RSVP: Please RSVP to help with our planning

P.S. Thurston County Young Republicans are hosting this event. Please forward this to anyone you know under 35 that is interested in politics.

CHRISTIAN HILL; The Olympian | • Published May 14, 2009

Pat Beehler has announced his candidacy for the Thurston County Commission, making him the first Republican to enter the race.

Beehler, a 64-year-old professional surveyor, said his mother instilled in him a desire to serve the community, and he’s at the point in his life at which he wants to extend that service to the political arena.

He’s a former chairman of the Thurston County Chamber of Commerce and former president of the Olympia Jaycees, and he served on the Thurston County Historic Commission for a decade.
